when you think about your "Identity?"
We worked in groups and discussed the importance of these terms in regard to our identities.
My team-members were Huma and Claudia and we talked about our identities and our backgrounds.
Huma is originally from Pakistan, but she lives her whole life in Denmark. Claudia is an Erasmus-Exchange-Student from Spain, who studies in Valladolid. I am an Erasmus-Exchange-Student from Turkey, who lived about 19 years in Germany.
It was a mix of people with totally different origins. Lilian categorized the terms into local, national, transnational and multi-level.
Considering my background and the fact that I am travelling a lot made me think to have a strong transnational identity at the beginning, but I figured out that my family and studies have an imense importance in my life. My local identity was of 90% importance which was the opposite of what I expected. We all talked about the different terms and compared our results with each other and I was at the beginning suprised to see that everybodies local identity was of great impact.
Lilian asked us to share the group results with the other students in the course and we concluded that almost every students local identity was the primarily essence of his or her identity. So were we all not able to go global in a world which is going global in every part of life?
We made mind-maps and discussed the terms local, national, transnational and multi-level in detail.
I started to understand that globalization is the process of integrating your local and national identities. Our global network consists of many different nationalities, languages and ideas which all have to be integrated.
